What is LGG^®?

LGG is a probiotic isolated from the intestinal tract of healthy humans. LGG has pili — hair-like appendages found on the probiotic that enable effective colonisation of the gut.⁷

^†As probiotics are inactivated by hot water, the reconstitution of a feed containing probiotics falls outside of current WHO recommendations. The BDA recommends that when healthcare facilities are able to make individual fresh feeds with foods for special medical purposes that contain probiotics for immediate consumption, these should be reconstituted by adhering to a strict safe preparation technique.¹¹
