Codinex Liquid is used to manage a non productive cough (cough without phlegm). It should only be used if alternative treatments have failed.

• Not recommended for use more than 3 days at a time.

How to Use

Adult dosage: the usual dose is 5 to 7.5 ml three to four times a day. Dosage should be reduced in elderly or debilitated patients.

Children : Not to be used in children under 12 years of age.

Not recommended for children under twelve years of age

Warnings

• Seek advice before using if you are breast feeding, pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or suffer from allergies.
• Hypersensitivity to codeine.
• Codeine may cause dependence. Use for a max of three days only.
• Liver disease: drug may accumulate.
• Ventilatory failure: condition may be exacerbated.
• Do not exceed stated dose. Not more than 4 doses should be given in any 24 hours.
• Do not take if you have allergies to pholcodeine or any other ingredients.
• Do not take with any other cough and cold medicine
• Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance should not take this medicine.
• Sunset Yellow may cause allergic reactions.

Side Effects

Side effects include occasional nausea and drowsiness.

May cause constipation.

Codeine Phosphate 15mg/5ml

5 ml also contains 75 micrograms sunset yellow (E110), 645 mg sorbitol and 0.32 micorgrams ethanol.
