Why test for blood in stools?

95% of cases of colon cancer start from benign tumors or polyps. These can remain undetected for years before developing into a more serious issue.

Bowel cancer is the 3rd most common cancer in the U.K.

With the early detection of polyps, you are able to have them treated and removed prior to them developing into something more serious.

Who is this test for?

This test is for everyone but is definitely recommended for anyone over the age of 40 years old.

What does blood in the stool indicate?

There are a number of conditions that cause blood in the stool. Bowel inflammations, haemorrhoids or changes in the digestive system can all cause blood in the stool, besides colonic polyps, but it is always worth checking with your doctor if you are unsure as to the cause of any blood that shows from testing.

How often should the bowel test be carried out?

People over the age of 40 are recommended to check at least once a year for the presence of blood in their stools.

What should you do if the test result is positive?

In all cases please consult your doctor if blood is detected in stools.

All medical decisions should be made only after consultation with your doctor.

Please note if you are experiencing any health issues these should be referred to your doctor
