Vaginal thrush is caused by a yeast called candida albicans. It is always present but inhibited by local bacteria. After antibiotics, stress, pregnancy and other factors, it can cause the yeast to grow causing itching and white vaginal discharge. It is easily treated with anti fungal creams and pessaries
